Become a Coach

Coaches are the heart of our program! Each season, two or more volunteer coaches inspire and guide a team through our tried-and-true curriculum. If you're ready to directly make an impact, then this role is for you.

Practice Volunteer

Ready to join in the fun? Practice Volunteers support the coaching team by assisting with logistics and safety while providing additional supervision at practices. Practice Volunteers do not need to be runners or have previous GOTR volunteer experience! They simply believe in and support our mission, and work with the coaching team to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident. Practice Volunteers are not authorized or trained to facilitate the Girls on the Run Curriculum, but are a great addition to the volunteer team by setting up activities, running/walking with the girls, and encouraging the team!

Pre-Season Practice Volunteer Requirements:

  • Must be 16 or older (we encourage high school students to fill this role)
  • Complete the online application
  • Review a brief orientation prior to the start of the season

In-season Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Communicate with the coaching team before and during the season
  • Attend practice at least one day per week during the season (March 4th - May 21st)
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor for participants
  • Assist coaches with lesson activities and workouts
  • Attend the end-of-season 5K on May 18th at Kalamazoo Valley Community College and Final Practice on May 20th/21st

5K Volunteers

Our end of season 5K takes place each May and provides a tangible sense of accomplishment to GOTR participants. To celebrate and make the experience one to remember, there are many opportunities to get involved as a 5K Volunteer.
